We are now accepting donations to expand access to music therapy to individuals of all ages in Florida.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 by March 2026, which will allow us to award two scholarships for six months of music therapy services each to individuals in need.

Applications for scholarships will open in January 2026, and scholarships will be awarded directly to the board-certified music therapist providing care.

FAQ's

Music Therapy Now Foundation

What is music therapy?

Music therapy is a clinical and evidence-based practice where a board-certified music therapist uses music interventions—such as singing, instrument play, songwriting, lyric analysis, and recording—to support mental, emotional, physical, and social well-being. Music therapists tailor sessions to each client’s needs and goals, helping individuals express themselves, build coping skills, improve communication, and enhance quality of life.

What scholarships will be available in January 2026?

Applications will open to Florida residents for our Music Therapy Services Scholarship in January 2026 and will be awarded in March 2026.

  • Each scholarship is $2,500, which funds 6 months of weekly, 1-hour music therapy sessions.

  • Funds are paid directly to a board-certified music therapist to ensure uninterrupted access to care.

Do I qualify for the Music Therapy Services Scholarship?

To qualify for the Music Therapy Services Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Florida.

  • Be of any age—children, teens, and adults are welcome to apply.

  • Do not receive insurance coverage or Step Up for Students funding for music therapy services.

  • Have been in contact with and approved to be seen by a board-certified music therapist.

What other scholarships do you plan to offer in the future?

As we grow, we aim to expand scholarship opportunities in 2026 and beyond, including:

  • Launch Scholarships for New Professionals: Supporting recently certified music therapists as they establish sustainable practices in underserved communities.

  • Internship Stipends: Assisting music therapy interns during their required clinical training period.

How do I fund music therapy services if I don’t receive a scholarship?

There are several ways to fund music therapy:

  • Private Pay: Many families choose to pay directly for services.

  • Insurance: Some health insurance plans may cover music therapy under certain conditions—check with your provider.

  • Step Up For Students: Florida’s scholarship program can sometimes be applied toward therapeutic services.

  • Foundation Scholarships: If you qualify, you may apply for our Music Therapy Services Scholarship to reduce or eliminate the cost of care.

How do I find a music therapist near me?

You can search for a board-certified music therapist in your area using the CBMT (Certification Board for Music Therapists) directory at www.cbmt.org. This ensures you are working with a qualified professional who meets national standards for education, training, and ethics.

How is the scholarship decided?

The Music Therapy Now Foundation board thoroughly reviews all scholarship applications and makes decisions based on need and eligibility. Awards are granted following a majority vote and formal board approval.

If I donate, is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. The Music Therapy Now Foundation Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Donors will receive a confirmation email and receipt for their records.
